Growing Resilient Future in Rakhine

Youth-Led Sustainable Farming & Climate Action

Our Vision

“A strong and self-sufficient rural Arakan, where farmers use sustainable farming methods, grow enough food for their communities and are prepared for environmental challenges”

Mission

“We help farmers protect the land and natural resources to promoting eco-friendly farming and building strong, climate resilient communities through training, local actions and youth leadership.”

Who We Are

Twinleaf Arakan is a youth-led non-profit based in Rakhine, Myanmar. We work with small scale farmers and community youths to promote sustainable agriculture, protect natural resources and build resilient communities. We focus on young people and farmers of all ages, helping them and apply eco-friendly farming methods that secure livelihoods and protect environment.

Why We Are

Rakhine stands as second poorest state with its chronic poverty in Myanmar. 83% of rural people rely on farming, fishing and other natural resources for their livelihood.

In Rakhine State, rural farmers have been facing livelihood instability and food security due to topsoil degradation, water shortage, lack of access to marketplace, limited farming education.

What We Do

We do these through our main programs below:

  • Education & Awareness (training, workshop, exchange, work camp and campaign)
  • Community Projects (basic infrastructure development, product development, market linkage and strengthening local networks)
  • Research and Innovation (Farm research at Twinleaf farm, farming research with local farmers, sharing new ideas and methods)
  • Advocacy (Speaking up policies that promote youth involvement in farming, protect soil and natural resources and environmental justice for farming communities)

Center for Soil Defenders is in-person learning platform where young farmer generation learn their farming skills, develop environmental conservation practices and explore their potential of livelihood opportunities in the agri-food system chains.

This program aims to empower elder farmers to combine their traditional practice with contemporary science, wisely use of natural resources nearby, create income opportunities for women farmers in local agri food system.

It also  aims to promote to transform the farming practices of current farming generation to be regenerative, sustainable and economically profitable.
